过去的影像穿插在当下的访谈之中，最珍贵的是她小时候的家庭录像和Joan过去在旅途中给父母录的音像和信。过去的自述和当下的反思对比看到她的成长变化和一些不变的特质。她和姐妹的感情也是有意思的点。过去总会把她和Bob Dylan联系在一起，Dylan确实是她生命中很重要的一笔但也不过是短短两年，Joan承认Dylan broke her heart ，这一段其实没有很大篇幅。和David Harris的婚姻是基于相同的政治活动理念，她写给狱中丈夫的信真是浪漫的理想主义，让人感动。可惜他太年轻，她的精神创伤太大，亲密关系终究敌不过现实消磨。最最喜欢的是她接受了当下年纪嗓音不复年轻时的清透，可是有岁月的沉淀。听着她在告别演唱会上有些沙哑的嗓音，看着她在广场上赤脚起舞，只觉得这样老去也真好。
