But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present.Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.

柬埔寨是个能讲鬼故事的好地方，红色高棉挥之不去，本以为会以这个展开，有深度有空间，结果还是一个日恐混合东南亚民俗恐怖的狗屁寻找宿主的故事，除了那个没有梯子的悬空上的门，日本小男友被囚禁至此有点结合柬埔寨特色而产生的恐怖的亮点外，毫无任何惊喜之处

#10208. 53rd IFFR-大银幕竞赛。也就5分到勉强及格的水平。跟《再见白楼》《白色大厦》选了同一个景，这也太有趣了这楼是柬埔寨国宝吗？但是不如《白色大厦》了，恐怖片虽然类型化程度高，但是故事还是要再讲得圆一点，何况蹭红色高棉这种政治梗蹭得这么鸡贼，应该多下点功夫而不是就一句“创伤隐喻”聊事儿了。能给到及格主要还是IMAX看确实音效做得特别有层次（虽说恐怖片套路音效也挺多的），而且“在日柬埔寨人”（尽管完全没展开）女主角是新人漫画家，由此也在视觉上去cue了伊藤润二等恐怖漫画（虽说这个跨媒介也做得不充分）。反正以鼓励为主吧……

恐怖氛围还算细节满满，形式上则是鬼屋逃脱+邪教禁锢。女主角的母亲以自己的死换取女儿的自由，却万万想不到成年后的女儿为了事业和怀旧故地重游回到鬼屋，整栋公寓必须要有人作为容器接纳它，不然就会不断杀人。影片最大的失误是没有交代清楚邪灵的来历和目的、以及整栋楼作为受害者和帮凶的意图和想法（哪怕模仿韩国恐怖片《公寓》的时间设定也算是师出有名）。一座整座城都知道是鬼屋的公寓，就是没人搬走、或者想办法解决，这不是很奇怪么。
