澳大利亚籍的剑桥教授。前四集分别讲了Roman conquerors and the Celts, Christians and Christendom, expedition and colonies, science and arts，有一点点照本宣科。才知道伽利略是1992年10月31日才被梵蒂冈教皇约翰·保罗二世平反（当年是一个“善意的错误”？）。五、六两集不知道想说啥，一会儿war and order（三巨头Potsdam Conference），一会儿EU solidarity and new era confrontations，一会儿drink beer=。=

六集讲欧洲史实在太短了，还是以介绍历史的某些时刻为主线，没什么深度。而且视角未免太偏颇，永远是WASP的世界观，露西亚被黑成碳。

历史学家本人总在夹带私货（虽然纪录片需要客观中立，但他本人好有针对性一直在阴阳苏联hh）总体比较详尽概括了更多是统一和分裂的欧洲史*欧洲的历史文明起源：希腊民主城邦*罗马法*团结和分裂欧洲的宗教：基督教，涉及到传教与罗马共和国的分裂，日耳曼人的侵入与东西罗马帝国的建立和分裂*欧洲的艺术与科学革命（这集我的最爱，从此开始进入欧洲文艺复兴阶段，结尾合唱欧盟盟乐贝多芬第九交响曲甚是震撼）*欧洲的战争与和平，融合统一与分裂，从十字军东征开始就埋下伏笔，之后是整个欧洲王朝的斗争，即后到法国大革命，拿破仑帝国的建立，普法战争，最后到近代一战二战极其冷战*欧洲现代所面临的一系列问题：信仰的分裂，欧洲统一体的衰落，英国脱欧是否意味欧盟的解体，民主的梦想后难民潮以及历史学家希望欧盟统一的大同理想
